Changing the default search engine


A search engine is the software used by a browser to surf the web. (Google is a search engine; Chrome is a browser).

For filtering purposes, it is best to use Google's search engine, therefore Bing & Yahoo may be blocked for some users resulting in a block page when trying to search the web. To resolve this, all we need to do is change the default search engine to Google®.

In this tutorial you will find a step-by-step guide on how to change the default search engine for commonly used browsers.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome, click the 3 dots on the top right corner and click on Settings.

  2. Select Search engines from the sidebar and under Search engine click on Change

  3. Select Google from the dropdown and click Set as default.

    That's it! Google is now your default search engine in Chrome.

Firefox

  1. Open Firefox and click the 3 dashes on the top right corner and click on Options.

  2. Select Search from the sidebar and select Google from the dropdown.

    That's it! Google is now your default search engine in Firefox.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge, click the 3 dots on the top right corner and click on Settings.

  2. Select Privacy, search and services from the sidebar and click on Search and connected experiences.

  3. Select Address bar and search.

  4. Click on the Search engine used in the address bar dropdown and select Google, then click on the Search on new tabs uses search box or address bar dropdown and select Address bar.

  5. If Google is not default select the 3 dots next to it and click on Make default.

  6. Click on Start, home, and new tab page in the sidebar, Click on Open custom sites, then click on Add site.

  7. Type www.google.com and click Add.

    That's it! Google is now your default search engine in Microsoft Edge.
